Leadercast: An Opportunity to Lead and to Bond

This May, a group of eight Summit CPA Group senior accountants attended Leadercast, an annual conference where attendees across the world in more than 700 host locations listen to speakers discuss all things leadership.

We attended the conference via the host site of Tampa, Florida – and treated the event as a chance to get to know our fellow senior accountants while becoming better leaders in the process. We enjoyed dinners together, spent time on the beach, and hung out at our rental condo together. Working remotely can make it difficult to connect with your coworkers, so this was a great opportunity for us to get to know each other better and on a personal level.

Some of the key takeaways from Leadercast included how to avoid the trap of the “Hustle Fallacy” in which individuals believe that working hard and never taking a break to take care of yourself is the key to success. Michael Hyatt discussed this issue and stressed the importance of self-care – related to your physical and mental health. He also discussed the importance of making time for your family and setting limits on your availability at work. This is even more important when you work remotely and your computer is “right there” all the time, making it hard to step away sometimes.

We also listened to Andy Stanley discuss the difference between what you value most and what you want now. He stated that it’s important to value the ultimate over the immediate – valuing your ultimate goals instead of your immediate desires. He also discussed the importance of the people with whom you surround yourself – your friends influence you more than you know. This really hit home with our team as we always strive to surround ourselves with the best and brightest coworkers to help Summit make our clients happy and successful.

The team had an amazing time bonding and learning strategies for becoming better leaders. We can’t wait for next year – with over 700 host sites to choose from –who knows where we’ll end up!
